Whirl Into Winter Giveaway!!

The holidays are over and it’s time to Whirl Into Winter with the Quilt Bloggers Giveaway organized by Debi. What a nice way to add excitement to January!!

Between January 1 and January 14 at noon CST, leave a comment on this post and tell me one thing you love about quilting or quilts. Only comments answering this question, left on or after January 1, 2009 will be counted. Please be sure I can get your email address on your blog profile or leave an email address so I can contact you.

Here is my wintry giveaway.

This is a quilt pattern called “Warm and Wintery” by Cotton Way which uses a pack of charm squares. You will get a charm pack “Miss Jump’s Scrapbag” from Moda and a yard of creamy background fabric to get you started on the quilt. To round out the wintry theme, I crocheted a cuddly scarf from Homespun yarn and will send some packets of tea and cider to keep you warm. There’s a little snowman sled just for fun!

Be sure and check out all the blogs participating in the giveaway, AND, leave your comment here on January 1st!!

One thing I love about quilting is that it ties me to generations of women whose creativity produced beauty from scraps. What an inspiration to take ordinary things in life, even the scraps, and make something unique that will bless and comfort ourselves and others.

Thanks for visiting my blog! Do come back again.

A huge thank you to all of you who left comments telling what you love about quilting or quilts. Most comments mentioned the creativity that quilting allows, the love of fabrics, the enjoyment of the process from choosing fabrics to the final quilting, and the joy that comes from giving quilts to those who will treasure them. There was also overwhelming appreciation of the fellowship and friendship that comes from meeting and sharing with other quilters even those who will never be met face to face but who become very dear across miles and even oceans because of a shared love of quilting. I feel so fortunate to visit blogs and share a few minutes with quilters whose tastes reflect my own and those who venture into new areas I can only appreciate!! I hope you will return again and visit with me and brighten my day with your comments.

The winner of my giveaway (randomly chosen by my sweetheart from a bowl full of names) is
Barbara, who said that "being creative is my favorite thing about quilt-making." Barbara, I'll email you and will have your package in the mail quickly.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in the giveaway and thank you to
Debi for organizing such fun!

What do I love about quilts or quilting is that from start to finish you can have a love affair with each quilt. It's like a new relationship with each new quilt.
Making eye contact with the right fabrics and patterns. Learning what does and doesn't work with each quilt. And lastly snuggling up with the finished quilt.

Hi Karen! Those are truly wonderful prizes you are giving away. I have two reasons why I love quilting: 1. Unlike anything else I have done, quilting allows me to lose myself in every piece of fabric, every stitch, the steady humming of the sewing machine and relax with no care in the world. 2. I also like that quilting unites women from every walk of life, and suddenly we are the same. Very cool! Happy New Year! imallyv@aol.com

Quilts, scrap quilts especially, take me back to one of my very first memories, many many years ago: sleeping warm and snug under my granmother's quilts in winter.

quilting puts me into a whole different place, a world of peace and joy. it totally de-stresses me. I love every part of quilting. shopping for fabric is the only shopping I enjoy. choosing the block design, shopping for the fabric, cutting, piecing, sewing blocks together, quilting by hand or machine, hand is best for me, binding, creating a label I love it All. Then giving it to someone. It is all the best.

Happy New Year!

I am brand-new to quilting, just halfway into my first top, and I am totally hooked. One of the many things I'm enjoying is the people: everyone I have shyly approached with questions has been helpful and eager to share, and every single one has said "Welcome!" Really! Literally! I have never encountered a community like it, and hope to become a useful member very soon!

The thing I like the best about quilts and quilting is that when you use a hand made quilt it is like wrapping yourself in a special hug from the person that made it.

My mother got me interested into quilting. She gave me a quilt and a box of quilt pieces that make a pinwheel block that my grandmother started. So I love the fact that it brought me back to my grandmother

I love quiling and most every type out there. Don't you wish vintage quilts could talk to hear the stories they could tell? :o)

I collect quilts that are old--auction finds---and a couple were gifts. I like to think about the people that used them before I got them, if they were kept warm on winter nights, if they were made with love & gifted to someone or out of need. My favorite are the crazy quiltes with handstitching. I have some new quilts; some I've made and some I've purchased....

What a wonderful wintery gift package! My favorite thing about quilting is that the person snuggling in a quilt I made especially for them, knows that they are loved by me, and they are reminded of it every time they see the quilt.

Aloha! I really love quilts for many reasons! Childhood memories of my grandmother & lady friends sitting at the quilting frame, just sharing their stories while quilting! Another reason is a well worn quilt is so snuggly!
Thank you for entering my name in your drawing! I pray that I win!
